From majestic redwoods to flower-filled meadows, UCSC is one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. What other university offers its students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to explore limestone caves, walk through fields of California poppies, discover brightly colored mushrooms in damp winter forests, find California giant salamanders prowling beneath a redwood on a rainy night, watch golden eagles hunting ground squirrels in the meadow, or see mountain lion tracks along a dusty forest path? This site is designed to be used in conjunction with The Natural History of the UCSC campus (available at the Baytree Bookstore). Both of these resources will allow any campus explorer to better see and appreciate the diverse life that is found between the buildings and roads of this great university.
