UCSC is one of few universities with an invertebrate for a mascot! Like all invertebrates, the beautiful yellow banana slug has no backbone. Hundreds of species of invertebrates live on campus, including snails, slugs, insects, spiders, ticks, millipedes, centipedes, pill bugs, and worms. The presence of many different types of habitats on campus supports this great species diversity, including several species found in some of the caves on campus and nowhere else on Earth! | |
